David C. Khan , M.D.

Dr. David C. Khan is a board certified Radiation Oncologist with special interest and expertise in prostate and breast cancer. He has expertise in Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), Lose Dose Rate brachytherapy, High Dose Rate brachytherapy and Calypso® Beacon technology. His practice is based out of the Los Angeles Cancer Institute and Santa Monica Cancer Treatment Center.
Dr. Khan received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College where he earned the distinction of being a Pomona Scholar. He received his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University. He completed his medical training at New York University and Bellevue Hospital, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious teaching hospitals.
Dr. Khan practiced at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles where he was the Chief of the Genitourinary brachytherapy service. During his tenure there, he was able to successfully start the prostate permanent seed implant program and trained resident radiation oncologists in the techniques of surgical radiation oncology. He has special expertise in Real Time Prostate Planning and has personally performed over 500 prostate seed implants. In addition to his prostate brachytherapy experience, Dr. Khan has extensive knowledge in accelerated partial breast irradiation (using the MammoSite®, Contura®, and Savi® brachytherapy devices).
Dr. Khan was also one of the first physicians in Southern California to utilize the Calypso® 4D localization system which utilizes tiny electromagnetic transponders to accurately localize and track tumors both before and during treatment delivery. He has published on decreased side effects utilizing this technology.
Dr. Khan is one of the Investigators in the Urban Latino African American Cancer (ULAAC) project which is a National Cancer Institute unrestricted grant. The purpose of the ULAAC project is to study disparities of care amongst minorities. The ULAAC grant provides for the partnership between UCLA and Los Angeles Cancer Institute and allows patients the opportunity to enroll in clinical trials which previously would have only been available at a university.
Dr. Khan is currently the Medical Director at Los Angeles Cancer Institute and Santa Monica Cancer Treatment Center. He also serves on the Emerging Technologies Committee for the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology. In recognition of his outstanding clinical performance, Dr. Khan has been selected by his peers to be included in Best Doctors in America.
