Robert S. Kwon , M.D.
Dr. Robert S. Kwon is a board certified specialist in Radiation Oncology and a member of Cancer Care Consultants Medical Associates. He serves as the Radiation Oncology Co-Medical Director at Los Alamitos Medical Center and staff member at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital, Northridge Hospital Medical Center and Citrus Valley Medical Center. He serves as a clinical investigator for the NCI sponsored Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) clinical trials and Clinical Trials Support Unit (CTSU) and is an active member of the ASTRO History Committee.
Dr. Kwon received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Kwon did his internship training at the University of Pennsylvania – Presbyterian Medical Center. He completed his Radiation Oncology specialty training at the University of California Irvine where he also served as Chief Resident. Prior to joining Cancer Care Consultants Medical Associates, he worked in private practice at the Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center in Pomona, California and Christus Spohn Cancer Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Dr. Kwon’s specialty and expertise include Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Intensity Modulated Radiosurgery (IMRS), Real Time Permanent Seed Prostate Brachytherapy Implant, High Dose Rate (HDR) Temporary Interstitial/Intracavitary Brachytherapy Implant, Systemic Targeted Radionuclide Therapy (STaRT), Intravascular Brachytherapy (IVB), and MammoSite Breast Brachytherapy. He also served on the National Advisory Panel for Ethyol (amifostine) radiation cytoprotection.
His presentation on Dynamic IMRT with Peacock: The University of California, Irvine Experience won the Best of Show Scientific Exhibit Award at the 52nd Annual Midwinter Los Angeles Radiological Society / Southern California Radiation Oncology Society Conference. His research on High Dose Rate Intraluminal Brachytherapy for the Treatment of Esophageal Carcinoma was published in the official proceedings of the 2nd Joint International Meeting of the American Brachytherapy Society. He has been recognized as one of The Best Doctors in America 2005-2006.
