Dr. Daniel Schiffner is a trained radiation oncologist with broad clinical experience in treating cancers of the prostate, breast, lung, central nervous system, gastrointestinal system, gynecologic system, and head and neck region. Dr. Schiffner has developed expertise in many of the most advanced technologies in the field of radiation oncology, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, and permanent seed prostate brachytherapy.

Dr. Schiffner received his undergraduate education in biology, chemistry, and genetics at Duke University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and with Departmental Distinction. He attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where he was awarded the Roy W. Howard Fellowship in Radiation Oncology. He completed an internship in internal medicine at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco before moving with his wife to Southern California to complete his residency training in radiation oncology at the University of California, Irvine. As a resident, Dr. Schiffner gained diverse clinical training at City of Hope National Medical Center, UC Irvine, Long Beach VA Healthcare System, and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. During his training, Dr. Schiffner served as Chief Resident and gained expertise in treating the full spectrum of tumors utilizing a wide array of advanced treatment technologies, including Varian RapidArc, TomoTherapy, and CyberKnife. In addition, he has extensive training in the treatment of prostate, breast (Mammosite), and gynecological cancers with HDR brachytherapy. Dr. Schiffner has also received focused clinical training at the Seattle Prostate Institute in permanent seed prostate brachytherapy and at the University of Pittsburgh in Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery.

Dr. Schiffner has been actively involved in award-winning research projects throughout his career. His research interests include IGRT, IMRT, SRS, SBRT, RapidArc, TomoTherapy, and brachytherapy. In addition to authoring several publications, Dr. Schiffner has presented his original research at regional, national, and international meetings of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), European Society for Therapeutic Radiology & Oncology (ESTRO), American College of Surgeons (ACS), and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). For his research achievements, he was awarded the prestigious Roentgen Research Award by the Radiological Society of North America. He remains involved in clinical research as an investigator for a number of clinical trials sponsored by the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG).

As a radiation oncologist with Cancer Care Consultants, Dr. Schiffner is dedicated to delivering compassionate, personalized, evidence-based, and cutting-edge cancer care to the patients that he serves. His primary practice locations are at the Los Angeles Cancer Institute in El Segundo and at the Leavey Cancer Center at Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Northridge. Dr. Schiffner is also affiliated with the Department of Radiation Oncology at UC Irvine, where he remains involved in educating residents. Dr. Schiffner is also actively involved in radiation oncology leadership on a regional level by serving on Board of Directors of the Southern California Radiation Oncology Society (SCROS), Continuing Education Committee of the Los Angeles Radiological Society (LARS), and the Planning Committee of the LARS Annual Mid-Winter Radiation Oncology Conference. 

In his free time, Dr. Schiffner enjoys running, skiing, travel, scuba diving, cinema, and exploring Los Angeles with his wife and young daughter.
