Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center is part of the Centinela Freeman Medical System and provides radiation therapy for Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital, Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital, and Centinela Hospital Medical Center. Cancer Care Consultants Medical Associates and the Department of Radiation Oncology at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital have united to deliver state-of-the-art radiation therapy in a compassionate and caring manner. The department is under the guidance of Dr. David C. Khan who serves as the Medical Director. The excellent staff has created a patient friendly atmosphere to provide comprehensive radiation therapy.

Daniel Freeman was one of the first hospitals in Southern California to offer AcQsim CT-based 3D conformal radiation therapy for computer planning and radiation treatment. This technology allows the physician the therapeutic advantage to maximize therapy to the tumor while minimizing toxicity to normal structures. Daniel Freeman also provides Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) which is the most revolutionary extension of 3D conformal therapy. IMRT is extremely precise and thus high doses of radiation therapy can be delivered to target cancer cells while minimizing exposure to nearby normal healthy tissue. This results in a higher chance for cure while minimizing side effects.

Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital also provides full service brachytherapy for our patients. Services offered include HDR prostate brachytherapy, prostate permanent seed implantation, Mammosite brachytherapy for breast cancer, and interstitial or intracavitary gynecologic HDR brachytherapy.

Community outreach programs directly available within the department complement the technological advances in radiation oncology. Volunteers from the American Cancer Society are now present for patients with a wide variety of needs. The radiation oncology center is privileged to have a Helen's Room (a positive appearance, image, and resource center) which is located within the department and easily accessible for patients.

As part of the community outreach program, Cancer Care Consultants along with Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital was recently awarded a $3.5 million dollar National Cancer Institute grant. The Urban Latino African-American Community Disparity Project (ULAAC) will develop a clinical trials infrastructure which will enable patients to receive cutting edge treatments that would have otherwise been available only within the university setting.
