Introduction
Since it opened in 1885, Good Samaritan Hospital has become one of the leading independent not-for-profit hospitals in the region, offering a wide array of high-quality services. Good Samaritan is a JCAHO (Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) accredited hospital with over 85,000 outpatient visitors a year. With its state-of-the-art technology, including a Gamma Knife® Radiosurgery unit, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and CT-simulation, Good Samaritan Hospital is one of the leading Radiation Oncology treatment centers in Los Angeles.
Facility
The Radiation Oncology Department at Good Samaritan Hospital is well-equipped with advanced technology for radiation therapy. The department offers two Varian linear accelerators and a dedicated Picker CT simulator. Other featured services include both High Dose Rate (HDR) and Low Dose Rate (LDR) Brachytherapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and Gamma Knife® radiosurgery. The services provided include Mammosite accelerated partial breast radiation therapy and prostate permanent and temporary implantation. The Gamma Knife radiosurgery services at Good Samaritan Hospital has been the longest-running program on the West Coast, with over 2500 such procedures performed.
Physicians
Radiation treatment is provided by the physicians of Cancer Care Consultants Medical Associates, with Dr. Michael Steinberg and Dr. David Huang as co-Medical Directors. Dr. David Huang and Dr. Robert Kwon serve as the primary radiation oncology physicians.
Personnel
The radiation cancer care team at Good Samaritan includes certified radiation therapists, a radiation oncology nurse, a dosimetrist, and a Ph.D. level physicist. Nutritional consultatations are also provided for patients who might need such services. The personnel and physicians meet on a weekly basis to review the treatment and progress of every patient.
